I have to admit I love having a time of play within our gatherings, using technology, videos, texting, etc. and of course building healthy relationships are all a must. Can we do these things with the goal of providing students the opportunity to also connect with Jesus? The answer has to be YES. I don't think you have to be a youth ministry that is all about games, fun and relationships nor be the type of group that is all "business" prayer, worship, message and more worship. There must be a balance of both. Within both we provide opportunities for students to truly experience Jesus. It takes more thought and work planning a night that can accomplish both or a balanced yearly calendar to make sure students are getting both, but it can be done.
The weekend was a good reminder for me personally, as well as a husband, father and pastor to engage in the intellectual, spiritual and creative to connect with Jesus.
