I thought I would share with all of you a few short tips on how to read your Bible. The thing to understand is that there is no one way to read it. You can find a ton of resources on the web. Here are a few tips to get you started.
#1 Get a good Bible. I recommend The Message by Eugene Peterson or NIV Teen Study Bible
#2 Decide where to begin. This can be a halting point for some because the Bible is so big. Here are a few suggestions:
A. Don’t worry about reading the whole Bible, you have your whole life to do it.
B. Take your time and read the same book or chapters over and over and over again. I
have taken up to 6 months on the same 6 chapters.
C. Start with one of the small NT books like James, Ephesians, Romans or 1 Peter.
#3 Pray. Spend a moment in prayer before you begin each time to help focus your mind.
#4 Memorize and meditate on a small portion of the text. For example, if you are reading James spend a little time each day memorizing James 1:22, this will help you keep it fresh.
#5 Share it. Either write it in a journal or tell someone what you are learning
#6 Do it. Like James says we have to put into action what we hear or it won’t last. Don't just be a hearer of the Word but also be a doer.
I hope this helps get you into your Bible. If you don't have a good Bible please let us know, so we can hook you up. Plus post your comments here so we know if this has been helpful to you. :)
