Much of our growth in spending time reading or studying the Bible has to do with attitude and distractions. So learning how to prepare ourselves to open this amazing transforming book is very important.
Start with the proper attitude. You are going before a Holy God, so adjust yourself with these habits and attitudes:
1) Prayer (Hab. 2:20, Psalm 89:7) Prepare your heart and mind, you are not going to a football game. Be quiet, clear your distracting thoughts and desires away.
2) Anticipation (Psalm 63:1) We must come before God with eagerness and expectancy. This is not a chore, it tus fellowship with the creator of the universe, what better time could there be.
3) Obediance (John 7:17) We must be willing to not only read but to obey God's decrees. It is not about you, it is about God. Make it your choice.
Colossians 2:6-7 says, "And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to live in obediance to him. Let your roots grow down into him and draw up nourishment from him, so you will grow in faith, strong and vigorous in the truth you were taught. Let your lives overflow with thanksgiving for all he has done."
